From a local Swiss news correspondent, picked up by the Associated Press

Fire broke out at a local boarding school late last night. Witnesses reported that the Swithin School structure was engulfed in flames after an apparent explosion originating in the basement area. Investigation is continuing into the cause of the fire and whether an explosion indeed occurred.

Early reports suggest that all forty-six students survived the blaze, having been evacuated prior to the building becoming engulfed. Nine out of ten staff members on site at the time are reportedly safe also. One staff member is missing and presumed dead - name and details withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Swithin School had generated controversy by accepting a large number of students accused or suspected of being Fae immortals. What would happen to these young people in the wake of the school's destruction was initially unclear. However, in a surprising turn of events, within hours of the fire, the inhabitants of an obscure Canadian island offered to provide foster placements for all of the children.

According to a spokesman from the Swithin School administration, "Of course there are legalities with moving children to another country, but we don't anticipate it will be a problem. The school will not be reopening, and there aren't many places willing to accept kids like these. I think the rest of the world will breathe a sign of relief to have it settled."

As to the cause of the blaze, the local fire chief neither confirmed nor denied the possibility of foul play. "We will continue to investigate," he told reporters. However, he also warned that given the total destruction of the site, there may little evidence available to provide answers.

From the blog "Healing a Troubled Heart"

    Dear readers,

With a heavy heart, I am announcing our decision not to take back our adopted daughter Katie after the Swithin School fire. Needless to say, this is not a decision we made lightly.

As my regular readers know, life with Katie has been very difficult. Katie was adopted from Poland with her older sister six years ago. The adoption failed, and the girls ended up back in the system. We naively believed the adoption agency that those parents were just crazy and that Katie would do well in another home without the disruptive influence of her sister.

We could not have been more wrong. It didn't take us long to realize just how bad Katie was. Stealing, manipulating, promiscuity, and the lying. The constant lying was the worst part.

Unfortunately, we don't believe there is any hope for Katie. We tried so hard for years, as hard as anyone could have, but she showed no gratitude for our efforts. I will always be proud of how hard we tried to help our adopted daughter. It took a huge toll on our family, though. It was especially hard on our two sons, and they don't deserve to be subjected to more trauma and lies.

What will happen to Katie? I'm told that she'll be going to a foster family in Canada. Of course we'll be writing to the child welfare agency and her new foster family to make sure they know what they're getting into.

Thank you all for your support at this difficult time.

With heartfelt gratitude, deep sadness, and finally, hope...

    Article from The Hollywell Gazette

Police responded to a family altercation at a wedding reception at St. Patrick's Church on Chapel Street yesterday afternoon. Police questioned local musician Declan McDermott, but released him without charges. His brother, Colin McDermott, was charged with the battery of a minor in a separate but reportedly related incident. He was released on bond, and is due to be arraigned in court. Neither McDermott brother responded to our request for comment.
